Overview
The BOD Program is Canada’s leading Building Operations Designation—a comprehensive certification pathway for professionals in building management, commercial real estate, energy systems, and operations. The program holds substantial subject-matter expertise but needed a coherent, modern, scalable learning system to deliver this knowledge online.
Challenge
The Building Operations Designation is Canada’s leading professional certification for building operators, property managers, and technical leadership in commercial real estate. While the program held deep, hard-won subject-matter expertise, that knowledge existed in fragmented, tacit form—spread across documents, presentations, interviews, and legacy materials. There was no unified competency framework, no coherent curriculum spine, and no modern digital learning model capable of delivering the program at scale. What was needed was not more content, but a system capable of holding it.

Solution
ALONSO.studio acted as lead learning architect and systems designer, shaping the program end-to-end. The engagement defined the full curriculum structure across twenty-two courses, established competency maps and learning pathways, and translated subject-matter expertise into clear, learner-ready instructional narratives across mechanical, electrical, safety, energy, and sustainability domains. The studio designed the UX, visual language, and LMS standards, developed modular self-paced courses grounded in modern learning theory, and laid the foundations for AI-assisted knowledge extraction and future automation. The work prioritised coherence, durability, and long-term adaptability.
Results
The engagement produced a complete curricular backbone for the designation and a clear pedagogical and visual standard for all future courses. The program now operates within a modern LMS structure designed to scale across new specialisations, micro-credentials, and delivery formats. The underlying knowledge architecture is transferable, extensible, and AI-ready, enabling faster conversion of SME expertise into high-quality learning assets. This work demonstrates large-scale learning system design focused on longevity rather than one-off course production.
